Navratri that literally means nine nights, is a Hindu festival. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti (goddess Durga ) i.e. female divinity are worshipped. Dasaharara, meaning 'ten days', is when the Navaratri festival of 'nine day festival' becomes 'ten days festival' with the addition of the last day, Vijaya-dasami. On all these ten days, Mother Durga is worshipped with fervor and devotion. There are 3 Navarathris celebrated, like Sharad Navaratri (Sept-Oct) which is also called Maha Navaratri. This celebrates the slaying of Mahishasura by Durga. The second Navaratri festival is Vasantha Navaratri (March- April) which is hugely celebrated in Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu. The third Navaratri is the Ashada Navaratri (July-August) which is particularly important for all Upasakas of Varahi. This is called Guhya Navaratri in Himachal Pradesh. Celebrating with family friends and relatives in any festive occasion gives us immense joy, specially so when its the nine nights long navratri.
