Baisakhi is also called vaisakhi. It is a harvest festival celebrated in north India particularly in Punjab, when the rabi crop is ready for harvesting. This hard agricultural process is turn into a merry festival such as bhangra dance by men, who dance with cheerful steps along with singing. Women too, perform generally gidda dance, with keenness and rhythm. On these occasions men and women beautify themselves with co lour clothes and traditional jewelry. This is generally done on the banks of the river which have sacred myths around. Baisakhi day is celebrated as the Nabha Barsha (New Year) in Bengal.
The people take a ritual bath in the river ganga and decorate their houses with rangoli (floral patterns) drawn on the entrance of their homes with a paste made of rice powder.In south the temples in kerala celebrate pooram festivals usually in honour of Vishnu.
