Dressing up for Halloween is always a fun filled and joyous occasion for both the kids and adults. It's a chance to wear all sorts of costumes that signify the spirit of Halloween. The tradition of today's children and adults wearing costumes can be actually dated back to the Celts. The Celts used to light bonfires and were dressed up in animal heads and skins as costumes and used to perform in front of the fire. During those days it was considered that the souls of the dead would visit the earth. And it was perceived the evil souls would harm the people and hence they dressed up in such costumes to convince their dead people like them as well. How ever over the years the religious aspect to Halloween has gone away and today it's more of a fun festival for people.
Costumes
Preparing the costumes and dressing up appropriately for Halloween can be a challenging task. People design all kinds of costumes that range from funny to serious and even scary. They also apply also kinds of make up to suit their characters that they portraying. And they have a whole list of popular characters to choose from. It may be of a witch, wizard or even Dracula etc. Boys and girls dresses up as witches and wizards with pointed hats, gowns, wands, broomsticks and corresponding make up to make themselves look evil. Or they sprout fangs like our favourite Dracula or come in as werewolf. What makes Halloween real fun, is seeing people turn up in different characters. It becomes a very creatively charged atmosphere and makes the whole event that much more fun. The characters don't necessarily need to be dark or have to fit into the Halloween mould per say. Some of the characters people like to portray for Halloween are Rumplestiltskin, Action Hero (Superman, Spiderman, etc), Adams Family Characters, Banshees, Caveman, Corpse, Dorothy, Dracula, Dragon, Frankenstein, Gargoyle, Genie, Gravedigger, Grim Reaper, Headless Horseman, Hunchback, Jack-o-Lantern, Jack the Ripper, Leprechaun, Mad Scientist, Magician, Pirate, The Pope, Sorceress, Spider, Werewolf, Wolf man, Zombie, Pall Bearers with Coffin or even Playing Cards etc
Face Paintings
Face fainting is another important aspect of dressing up for Halloween. Its the face make up that finally gives that authentic touch that you are trying to portray. People take efforts and put in a lot of detail to look authentic. At the same time one must ensure that the paints people apply on their faces are safe and do not irritate the skin. You get good quality paints that are not only cheap but also safe on the skins and in matter of few minutes you can get the desired look. An effective way of going about the process is actually making an outline sketch first on the face and then you can swiftly apply the paint on the face and you can also constantly keep looking at the mirror and see when to tone up or down or if you need to be adding more colour.
Use a nice range of brushes from thick to thin to get the necessary outlines and also use sponges to get even tone and texture on the face. Above all before you start, have a basic plan and already decide on the particular look of the character you are seeking to emulate.
Also remember that some times kids may have sensitive skin. So buy your paint kits with caution and buy it few days in advance to ensure your child has to adverse allergic skins. Also make sure that you don't apply on open cuts and or in places where there is an infection.

Now a days in quest to make the look of their character very real lots of people to opt for contact lenses. Contact lenses really do a lot to accentuate the look of your character. There is nothing cooler than a werewolf with green eyes!! Got the picture? At the same time lots of people don't take proper care when they wear lenses because of a lack of awareness.
